Cats and Pilates: What Do They Have in Common? (Courtesy Post: 6 Degrees of Cats Podcast)

It has been a while since my last post! I wanted to share a podcast and an episode of it that brought me joy. If you are not a cat person, stop reading this right meow.

My friend Amanda B. hosts the wonderful “6 Degrees of Cats” podcast. The season 3 premiere episode is titled “Catnaps! On Pilates and rest with Pilates practitioner Mary Bowen and The Nap Ministry founder Tricia Hersey, M.Div.” It’s a lovely analysis of the cat-sourced inspiration of Pilates, an exercise method developed by Joseph and Clara Pilates. According to Mary Bowen, “the senior Pilates practitioner to have studied under Joseph Pilates,” according to the show notes, she said that she read Joseph say in an article, “‘I based my method on the baby and the cat.'” Her reaction? “Okay! That’s what got me to go to him.”

Mary, according to the show notes, “explains how and why cats are the ultimate pilates instructors and learn about the history of this art of holistic movement.” Not only that, but as Amanda says during the interview, “Apparently these little Pilates mascots were practicing right alongside Joe and Clara [Pilates] at the studios.” How cool is that?

Have a listen.
